Dr Robert True practiced in New York City with his partner, Dr. Robert Dorin. He has exclusively practiced hair restoration surgery for 35 years. He retired from clinical practice in 2022. He is an Emeritus Fellow of the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery and Emeritus Diplomate of the American Board of Hair Restoration Surgery. He has served as the President of the ABHRS, as Scientific Program Chair of the ISHRS world congress, and was Co-editor of the Hair Transplant Forum of the ISHRS. He has over 100 publications and presentations on hair restoration surgery. With Drs. Anil and Seema Garg, in 2021, he published the Practical Guide to Hair Transplantation, a highly acclaimed and popular textbook aimed at practitioners new to the field.

Dr. True was one of the earliest to use FUE and has been very active in developing and teaching the technique. He is widely recognized as an expert on FUE, particularly its application in harvesting body hair. He has taught the technique in numerous workshops internationally over the past 20years. Dr. True performed all graft excisions in his cases and is committed to the standard that FUE surgery should not be delegated to unlicensed technicians. Dr. True has also advocated bioenhancements in HRS and explored how these can be used to improve surgery results.

Dr True has received many professional awards. In 2019 the Golden follicle Award, one of the highest honors in the field, was bestowed on Dr True for his significant contributions to the profession.
